Suggested Activities in Dartmoor and Devon

Walking

The area has a huge variety of walks from a relaxing stroll through secluded woods or picturesque villages to a challenging trek across windswept moors and tors which can be enjoyed across all seasons. Stretches of the South-West Coast Path are also accessible from here. We have a wide selection of maps and books of walks for perusal or to borrow. You can get ahead of the game and download maps and routes from Dartmoor.gov.uk and many similar sites.

Cycling

Dartmoor offers exhilarating road cycling through winding country lanes as well as off-road cycling where keen mountain bikers looking for a thrill will find steep ascents and descents, while families can enjoy quiet forest tracks and trails. Routes are downloadable from above website..

We can advise on cycle hire in the area and provide secure lockup and cleaning facilities for your equipment.

Golf

Within easy reach of Frogmill we have three excellent golf courses - Downes CreditonFingle Glen and Teign Valley – all with non-member day tickets available, and many more courses dotted around the county.

Horse Riding

Amazing countryside and stunning views provide the perfect setting for horse-riding and pony-trekking across open moor or woodland trails and bridleways. There is a wide choice of stables to choose from in the locality.

Fishing

We are within easy reach of a wide selection of rivers and reservoirs providing sport for all levels of ability.

The fast-flowing Teign and Dart rivers as well as Fernworthy and Trenchard reservoirs are within a half-hour drive and day permits are obtainable.

Beaches

We think the best beaches from Frogmill are to be found on the North Cornwall coast about an hour’s drive west. Our favourites are Trebarwith Strand and Crackington Haven, offering secluded rocky coves and golden sand. However, Exmouth, Dawlish and other locations on the “English Riviera” and the South Devon coast also have extensive sandy beaches.

Eating out

We are very lucky to have a variety of excellent eating establishments within a short drive of Frogmill. We are happy to make recommendations and advance reservations on your behalf.

There is a choice of two pub/restaurants in our closest villages of Tedburn St Mary (Kings Arms) and Cheriton Bishop (Old Thatch), approx 2 miles from Frogmill.

There are several other highly recommended restaurants a bit further away including The Duck at Yeoford, The Old Inn, Drewsteignton, the Lamb at Sandford, the Tom Cobley at Spreyton, the Manor Inn in the Teign Valley, and the 2 Michelin starred Gidleigh Park. The city of Exeter is only 20 minutes drive offering a wide variety of restaurant styles.

Gardens

Garden enthusiasts can choose to visit RHS Rosemoor, the Eden Project, Lanhydrock, Bicton Park, Killerton, Coleton Fishacre, Buckland Abbey and Stone Lane Gardens to name but a few.
