Where to go in Dartmoor, Devon and the West Country

Dartmoor National Park

Ancient, enigmatic, beautiful, Dartmoor is a captivating mix of rugged moorland and tors, deep wooded valleys, fast flowing rivers and quaint villages. It can be explored by car, by bike, by horse, on foot or from the water and within its 368 square miles there are hundreds of activities to sample and enjoy (see our Activities page).

We can suggest driving tours to capture the best of the Moor where time is short, to enjoy the superb scenery and landscapes and explore some of the market towns such as Okehampton and Tavistock, and picturesque villages such as Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Chagford and Lustleigh, on and surrounding Dartmoor.

Within a short drive of Frogmill are a number of the Moor’s leading attractions including Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge, Canonteign Falls and Becky Falls, Haldon Forest Park, Lydford Gorge and Waterfall and The High Moorland Visitor Centre.

The Underground Passages were built in the 14th and 15th centuries to bring fresh water supplies to the city, a visit there includes a video presentation and a tour underground.

The Quayside area, once the Port of Exeter, and one of the busiest in the land has a fascinating history, learn more as you stroll around. It now houses shops converted from the old warehouses and has a lively café culture. Take a walk along the towpath to see the oldest pound lock canal or take a boat trip upstream.
